Let me start by saying I know I am lucky to have a "summer break". I will never complain about it. Now, I will also say that summer break this year (and last) doesn't really feel like a break because I am taking Masters classes.
I want to move on. I want to go bigger. I want to be a principal. I want this to happen within the next two years. The reason for starting classes was simple--the money. The other reason is more complicated. I came to the quick realization when R started school with me that I didn't need to be his teacher. I am already hard enough on the boy, if I had to have him in my classroom I hate to think about the expectations. I have known many teachers that were faced with the same issue (teaching their child), and they did a great job. I just don't think I have it in me. So I started taking classes last summer to get my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership (Administration). It has at times tried me to my very core of being (Statistics and Research). It has also been one of the most fulfilling experiences I have ever pushed myself into. I never thought I would enjoy going back to school. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed some or most of my time. Remind me of that while I write 5 and 10 page papers on my "break".
I am also signed up to be in charge of the drama rotation for VBS. I have never (not one time) been to VBS much less be in charge of something. Of course I volunteer for the most intricate and difficult part of the whole thing. Snacks? Arts and Crafts? Registration? NO! I tell them that I would love to be in charge of drama. Holy Crap!! What was I thinking!!
I guess I should throw in a garage sale while I am at it. I don't have enough on my hands that I also need to clean out every closet and cabinet looking for things to sell. You better not set something down for too long because if I find it, I will sell it!
It exhausts me just thinking about what I am going to do this week, and I haven't even started yet. Well except for the garage sale--I have been gathering stuff for months. Oh wait, I forgot that we have our vacation planned (Perdido Key here I come) in a couple of weeks, and I should probably start thinking about what to pack. Oh well, I guess I can get to that next week.
PS I should also mention that we are at the ball fields EVERY SINGLE NIGHT THIS WEEK.

Graduations
With everything that has happened in the world lately, it is really easy to get depressed and ask WHY?! No one knows why these tragic situations occur, and I don't really think we are supposed to understand. I think we are supposed to rely on each other through these tough times, and remember that love and friendship are really powerful forces.
On another note, tomorrow marks a big day in the life of the Key house. Munchkin is officially graduating from preschool. It is bitter sweet to know that he will be with me next year because that also means he has to grow up. I put together a couple of pictures for his graduation board at school. We only ended up using the top picture.
We talk about him coming to Kindergarten, and I think he will love it. I just wish they would stay this age for a little while. R & W are so much fun, and I know we will all love being at school together.
Same day I am having to find pictures of Wilson, I received an emotional invitation. My first class of students from FSM are graduating this year. In my mailbox at school was an invite from one of those students. Not just any student, though. I don't have favorites--I love all of my children equally--but sometimes you have THAT student that just stands out. This young man had only been in the USA a year and a half when he walked into my class. His smile was contagious and so was his love of learning. He showed amazing potential even at that young age. When I opened the invitation, and I saw his Senior picture, I started bawling!! It was the ugly cry right there in the middle of the front office. I am sure people thought I was crazy, but I just couldn't help it. I lost all control of my emotions. It wasn't really a sad cry, some of the tears were from joy, but mainly it was just from reality.
While I don't really feel that much older (most days), I see the world around me changing. My boys growing up, my students moving on, and people celebrating new babies (or the potential of one). I love watching it, but I also wish I could stop the roller coaster for just a minute.

miss those fat cheeks!

Our dog, Sandy
We recently adopted a new family member (it was January, but still). She is the sweetest, and I am happy to finally have another female around the house. We have always told the boys that when R is 8 and W is 5, we will get a dog. Well, Justin actually agreed to "Laura" (her name originally). She was pretty shy at first, but she is getting better around men. From the beginning, Sandy has followed me wherever I go though. She wants to be right there with me, so much that she is pretty jealous of Justin.
Having a dog has completed something in our family that I can't quite describe. I guess we didn't know we were missing something until we found Sandy. I am overjoyed by the affection my boys show her, and she in returns shows them.
I would really encourage anyone who is thinking about getting a dog to check out your local pet store. We adopted Sandy from a rescue group outside of Petco. I have taken the boys many a Saturday to meet dogs from different rescue groups in the area. I knew all along that we wanted to adopt (not get a puppy), and I wanted my boys to experience many different types of dogs. We have walked Mastiffs and Labs, and we have played with smaller ones. I wanted a medium to large dog because the size of our yard would allow for it and because my boys needed someone who could withstand their wild tendencies. I am so glad that my boys get to grow up with a loyal companion.
sorry so blurry
She has adapted well and has only had a few accidents in the house. She is very territorial, but I think that is the German Shepard in her. She is a mix of GS and Chow, but I think now that she has lost most of her undercoat that she looks more like a Shepard. Her previous owners left her on the side of the road because she was preggers. Sad story, but we love on her all the time to try and make up for it. Sandy is really good with the boys. She even helps me read to them at night. I think she will end up being more snuggly, but right now she likes to just sit near you. She also really loves to go on walks (and isn't too bad on the leash or your arm).
our very first walk as a family

you can't come between the love of a boy and his dog

How Do I. . . ?
While I was driving to the ball fields tonight I thought of a post. It is kind of like a tutorial, but not at all. I can see this being a theme on my blog, so I might just make it a weekly happening. I am calling it: How do I. . .? because I am really hoping people will help me out and answer some of these questions. I don't have but 3 followers and like a handful of readers, but still. I need help.
How Do I
Style white skinny jeans/jeggings/whatever those things are? I had to borrow a shirt from a GF to wear with them the first time, and I don't really want to ask her for the same shirt every time I want to wear these pants. I am having a hard time because I don't wear white pants. EVER. But I bought them, so now I HAVE to wear them. I need help in finding a cute shirt/tunic/whatever goes with stuff like that. It is actually the first pair of skinny jeans I own (and I picked white--go figure).
Get the font to go back to the original after I load a picture? I tried with the last post, and it just frustrated me!! I am not ignorant when it comes to technology, but SERIOUSLY I couldn't get it. Oh well, part of the OCD inside of me is dying.
Link up to another blog? I have written down on my "Blog Ideas" many of my favorite link ups that Istalk enjoy reading. Now I just need someone to give me step by step instructions of how to get it done! Like seriously, if someone could tell me before Friday please!!
Start a side business? I have a great idea. I don't know if anyone would really want to hire me, but I think I might be able to create a little business. I don't want to reveal exactly what I am thinking (because that is another post on my list), but if there are any business savvy readers out there with advice, I will take it!
Okay, so just be ready because I have so many other things I need help with including but not limited to: hair styles, makeup, decorating, dogs, children (especially boys), resumes, and so much more. Maybe I could even create a link up (but that would need to be explained to me!!)

Birthday Celebrations Part 2
I found out on Wednesday that Justin and I would be traveling somewhere for the weekend. If you live any where close to FSM, you know that the weather was CRAZY, and it was cold and rainy. Justin wouldn't tell me where we were going, so I did my normal thing. I acted like an adult and accepted the surprise. I asked around to see if anyone knew anything. I just wanted to know what to pack. I really didn't want to know exactly where we were going. I was secretly hoping it was Eureka Springs because I recently mentioned it to Justin. Granddaddy-o arrived in time to pick Wilson, and Justin and I were able to get away about 5:15. He finally told me where we were going once we got on the road (and were stuck in the construction traffic). I WAS RIGHT!! Justin had it all planned, and I was bound and determined not to let Mother Nature mess with awesome birthday plans.
The hotel we stayed at was smack dab in the middle of it all. Perfect place for Justin and I to set up headquarters. It had quaint rooms with little added bonuses. When we arrived we had to unload quickly and take the car to the parking lot (like 2 miles away--probably not really). After hiking up the big mountain of stairs, we cleaned up and headed out for our first night. We found a place that looked pretty cool and so we decided to check it out. We thought they had a menu outside, and so we assumed it was a bar/grill. Not so much. The only options were tacos (for $1) or loaded nachos. I really just wanted to sit and chill, listen to some music, and so I went for the loaded nachos. Interesting choice, Hill. I might have eaten 1/5 of the plate when I decided it was better for me just to stick to liquids. We listened to the band, whom I enjoyed, but I don't think Justin did. The we decided it was late and we wanted to explore the next day so we went to bed. Seriously, it couldn't have been much past midnight if it was even that late.

35 before 35
On the birthday note, I made a list of things I would like to accomplish before my next birthday. I have seen this idea on other blogs, but most of those lists allowed for a couple of years or so. Justin took one look at my list and said, "good luck." I might have lofty aspirations, but I dream and I dream BIG!
1. Finish my masters degree: obviously this was the easiest of all because I know it is going to happen, but I am still so proud to get it done.
2. Go to the beach: Again I know this is going to happen, but I love it so much it has to be included.
3. Pay off the truck
4. Start the redo on the kitchen
5. Finish the "man room"
6. Host a cookout/dinner party
7. Pay for someone else's meal anonymously
8. Shoot a gun
9. Write on the blog routinely (I have even come up with a list of things I can write about)
10. Make a smash journal
11. Paint the china hutch
12. Send out birthday/holiday/anniversary cards on time
13. Run a 10K
14. Visit my family
15. Read 10 books (other than required readings for school)
16. Present a workshop/professional development
17. Teach someone else about Dave Ramsey
18. Make a summer "schedule of activities"
19. Decorate the boys bedrooms (and use some of those Pinterest posts I have)
20. Have a garage sale to get rid of junk/stuff we don't need
21. Attend church regularly
22. Go camping (not in the back yard)
23. Attend a concert
24.Go hiking with the family
25. Visit a "new to us" city
26. Donate blood
27. Learn to play chess
28. Learn to make sushi
29. Drink wine at a vineyard
30. Donate to a charity
31. Take an exercise class
32. Get a facial
33. Go on a bike ride
34. Be the Drama teacher at Vacation Bible School (actually happening, but still pretty cool)
35. Go visit Australia (not happening but always has to appear on the list)
**This list is in no particular order. Please understand that I sat down and made this list in a matter of minutes. I could probably come up with really well thought of plans, but it would also cost more money and time than I am willing to give. I tried to make a list of things I thought I would actually be able to accomplish. That might be a cop out (like I didn't try hard enough), but I know what I am capable of, and if I can get all these things done I am AWESOME!

My birthay celebrations-- Part 1
Okay, so I have decided to try this blog thing one more time. This time around I hope I have a different attitude towards writing. We can only wait and see.
This past month I had a birthday. You would have thought by the celebrations that it was a big birthday. You know, the kind that end in either a 5 or a 0. No, I was turning 34, but my students and husband treated me to an impressive few days. My homeroom mom went out of her way to make sure we celebrated my birthday in style. I can't tell you how much I appreciate her and everything she does for us. I went for many a year without parent support in the classroom. To have parents that will offer to do things is precious. My students are also a serious blessing. They planned most of the day, and they were hilarious.
We started the day with the secretary stopping me in the office to "dress" me in a green grass skirt and flower lei. She told me that I wasn't allowed to go down to my classroom until the tardy bell. If anyone knows me they know that I started to panic. I wasn't worried about what was going on in my classroom exactly, I was more worried about being late. OCD much? Once I was allowed to go to my room, I was bombarded by students in the hallway wishing me "Happy Birthday!" It was overwhelming in the best of ways.
I get to my room to see it decorated with streamers and blow up flamingos and palm trees. All of my students are in mix-matched clothing, crazy socks and tennis shoes or flip flops. It is hilarious to see, but still I am overwhelmed! We had donuts and juice, enjoyed the moment, and then I made the "list". I had a list made of things that we needed to accomplish for the day. It really wasn't extensive or difficult, but there were things that needed to happen. Little did I know what was in store for me.
At 8:51 am someone's cell phone alarm went off. See, I let my students have their cell phones, and really, the district wants them to use their own devices. Usually I ask that they are on silent, and I check to make sure they are using them correctly. So needless to say I was surprised when the alarm when off. A few students jumped out of their seats, and suddenly, they were all doing the Harlem Shake. Every 30-45 minutes an alarm went off and the same thing happened. A couple of students would bring me a present, and they would read a note to me. All day long I received presents, watched my students dance, and enjoyed my birthday!
The gifts that I received from my class were all of my favorite things. I got animal print, Target, Starbucks, Red Lobster, hot pink and baby blue, snacks, cherry lemonades, yellow butterflies, and so much more. I really can't believe all of the awesomeness that I unwrapped!

Query
I totally stole this idea from another blog that I read. I am a complete blog stalker, and I am not afraid to admit it!!
Maybe I should take a deep breath and remember that I got this covered!!
I love that baseball/t-ball season is almost over. Don't get me wrong, it has been so awesome to watch my boys, but in 106 degree heat it is awful!
People would say that I am slightly crazy, and I would say that crazy is SO MUCH MORE FUN than normal.
I don't understand why so many places can be flooding while other places are having devestating wildfires, and we can't figure out a way to get all that water across the country.
When I wake up in the morning I thank God that my husband rises earlier than me. He has gotten up with the boys almost every morning this summer.
I lost some certificates for my students at the end of the year, and I haven't been able to get back into my classroom to find them or print off new ones. NICE!
Life is what you make of it. If you aren't working for it, then don't complain about it not happening!
My past has been seriously rocky at times, but it made me who I am. I try to live with no regrets. Move on, go forward, learn from mistakes (whether mine or others) and dream.
I get annoyed when people don't watch their children. This is really just the elementary teacher coming out in me. I sometimes use my "teacher look" on kids I don't know. I am not ashamed of this either.
Parties are so great, as long as they aren't surprise parties for me. I am not kidding when I say that I do not like surprises. I will walk out of my own party. Do not test me!
I wish I could fly. No, I am not singing that Seal song. It has always been the super power I would love to have.
Dogs are something I want in my family's near future. I just have to win over one person.
Cats are okay, but I just really don't dig them. They kinda freak me out a little bit.
I have a low tolerence for people who make excuses. Not saying I don't ever, but really, I have a job, two kids, a husband who works his butt off, and somehow I find the time to _________. You can fill in the blank with anything like: workout, read, visit with friends, call home, start taking classes for a new degree.
I am totally terrified of spiders. Don't like them, don't need them, don't want to be around them, will scream and climb on furniture if I see them. I will even let my almost 5 year old be brave and kill them for me. H.A.T.E spiders. Snakes are a close second, but I don't run into them as much.
I wonder why I didn't appreciate those high school/college friendships when I had them. I feel really bad that I don't keep in touch with people better.
Never in my life have I been to an auction. I would love to go to one where they were screaming out stuff really fast. I think I would like to go to one of those storage building when they are auctioning off an abondoned one.
High School was pretty good for me. I had friends in different groups, so I don't feel like I was pigeon-holed into one set of friends. I don't think I would go back though.
When I am nervous I sweat like a whore in church. Sorry for the languague, but if you have ever been around me when I get really nervous you know!! I get so hot it is seriously embarassing!
One time at a family gathering I wore a black and white bodysuit (if you don't know what this is, you obviously didn't grow up in the 90's) and black jeans. Not so bad you say? Yea, I wore it at the beach! What was I thinking, and why didn't someone say to me "Hill, you look ri-dic-u-lous!
Take my advice if you think your child isn't ready for Kindergarden, they aren't. If you have any doubt AT ALL about starting your child, please wait a year. I can't tell you how many times I have heard from parents of 5th grade students, "If I had just waited to start him/her."
Making my bed only happens when the cleaning lady comes. It makes me so happy to see it when I get home.
I am almost always thinking about a gazillion things. What mom/teacher isn't?
I am addicted to exclaimation points evidentally!
I want someone to be nice to someone else, who will in turn be nice to someone else, and it will start a chain reaction like that commercial. I try to start the chain every now and then in hopes that it carries on without me knowing.
Maybe I should take a deep breath and remember that I got this covered!!

Our Destin Vacation
Oh my! I guess I didn't really understand how much I missed the beach until we went back! If you don't know, or you aren't a "friend" on FB, we just returned from Destin. It was a wonderful week with a few sad moments.
From early on in my life, summers were spent on the beach. We would pack up as much as we could fit in our maroon mini van and drive from Arkansas to North Carolina. We would meet up with my older brothers and sisters, and we would spend a blissful week in paradise. There were many nights of Jenga. There were also many night spent at the local arcade on the beach (I think it was named Breakers). I think of those summers with love and laughter. I loved all of the time together, and I laugh at the fact that when I grew older I would make "friends". Each year going back, we would see some of the same people. My family would joke, "So Hillary, how old are you this year." It became such a tradition to go to the beach that when I turned into a real adult, summer didn't seem the same without sand and waves.
We tried a couple of years ago to plan a trip to Destin. Obviously BP had a different plan for us. I watched in horror, praying that our beach would be saved from the nastiness while I prayed for the poor souls that lost so much more. We probably could have gone that year, but we decided to head north to St. Louis to be safe. We spent another week in St. Louis last year enjoying all of the sights and museums.
Finally this year it worked out for us. I researched the places trying to find a perfect fit for the 10 of us. We needed a pool (just in case), laundry, and enough places to sleep everyone. We wanted to be on the beach (or at least in short walking distance). Allison picked the place after much research and discussion.
I can't tell you the excitement I felt knowing we would be seeing and smelling the familiar and memory invoking sights and sounds from my childhood. Granted it is a different beach, but same idea. I was so ready to introduce my boys to all of the fun that can be had! I started list making, laying out everything we might need, and planning meals/dinners out WAY TOO EARLY!
Two days before hand I started annoying everyone in the house.
"Hey Boys"
"Yes mom"
"Guess what"
"What Mom"
"We are going to the beach, and we leave tomorrow!!"
This refrain would repeat itself every few hours until they were groaning and laughing at how excited I was!
By Friday morning they were tired of me :). The drive really wasn't that bad, but that probably had to do with the fact that Justin wouldn't let me behind the wheel. What is a girl to do with that much time on her hands you might ask. I read, napped, and generally chilled!
I won't bore you with all of the day to day details. We arrived, we hugged family, we played on the beach, we swam, we ate good seafood, we played.
I woke up earlier than I would normally so I could enjoy the mornings. I took walks when I would normally sit. I took in as much as I could because I really didn't want to miss anything.
We all were really sad when the Archers had to leave early. Due to a family emergency back in Las Vegas, they flew home on Wednesday morning. Those of us that stayed missed them and prayed for safe returns and healing in the difficult days that faced them. It was hard to see them go knowing what they would face when they got home. After they left it was a little quieter around the condo.
The White family (from OKC, but originally from FSM) came down to spend a couple of days with us on the beach. It was fun to watch the kids play together, and they caught LOTS of crabs. They also attempted to build a village of sand castles. The waves were rough, but that didn't keep us from trying our best to get out there and conquer them.
We enjoyed our week. We enjoyed each other, the atmosphere, the food, the place, everything really. We would have enjoyed it more with everyone there, but there is always NEXT YEAR! I really hope I can convince everyone that we need to go back.

What's Happenin', Captain?
You know when you feel like you just want to scream? Or maybe you can relate to times when you really need to escape? I will tell anyone that will listen that I am a BETTER mom because I work. I love my job, and I love my children. I just really love the fact that I don't stay home with my children! Don't get me wrong, I am excited that I have a couple of months off to relax. I just know that I get along better with little Squishy and big Squishy when I have not seen them for 72 hours straight.
Justin went out of town for the weekend. My FIL has a place on East Lake (which is an oxbow lake--if you don't know what that is we can discuss it later), and it is really nice!! He had a different place, but with the floods of 2011, he had to demolish and start over. He recently purchased a new manufactured home (trailer), and I am seriously impressed with the new digs. We went down for Memorial Day weekend, but I didn't get any pics. Justin went back this past weekend for some quality time with his dad. My man works so hard during the school year with football and track that I understand he needs some time away. I didn't really mind either. I get kind of used to him being busy with coaching, and when things really slow down, we are kind of stepping all over each other.
He left early Friday, and I had already planned a day of swimming at a friend's house. We had about 3 hours of fun in the sun (thankfully I remembered my sunscreen this time), and then home to rest before Russell's late game. I have said before that I love watching my boys play ball, but I don't love the crazy parents!! I have been dug out mom for the past two years, and I was wishing I was still in there Friday night. I felt like screaming, "Come on folks! No one is getting a college scholarship from this game!" It is ironically funny to me that we play in the "church league", but most of these people don't act very church like!
Saturday consisted of hanging out and going to watch Madagascar 3. I think I laughed more than the kids! It was a seriously cute movie--way better than #2. The rest of the day we just vegged out. I was really busy reading aserious novel Fifty Shades of Grey, and I only came up for air to make sure the boys hadn't killed each other. If you haven't read the series I would highly suggest you get the books! I bought the first one on my Nook (greatest invention ever) Friday after the ball game, and I finished the third one today. I read pretty fast, but I also couldn't put them down. So many people had suggested the books that I finally decided to succumb to the peer pressure. I am so glad I did!!
Justin returned on Sunday, and the evening was spent with good friends around the pool. We are gearing up for vacation, and I will definitely be posting pics when we return. Till then, enjoy some of these recent ones.
Don't they look so cute in their ball outfits?! Disregard the date on the pic (obviously).
I took a photography workshop recently that I really enjoyed! This is the product of said workshop.
So what have you been up to? Big summer plans? Prayers that you can come up with activities for your kids?

You might be surprised. . .
I saw this post on another blog that I read, and I thought I would try it out. I am supposed to tell 10 things that people would be surprised to know about me. Most of the people that would read this blog probably already think they know everything about me, so I will reach really deep for these tidbits.
#1 I have my motorcycle license. Yes! I had to get it in my past life for reasons I don't need to go into, but since I had it then (and it is on my driver's license) I will have it forever. The really interesting part about this fact is that I didn't have to drive a motorcycle in order to pass the test. I just had to answer the written portion. That is really scary to me!
#2 If I won the lottery I would want to become a roller coaster enthusiast. That is someone who travels the world and rides the biggest, baddest, most loop-de-loop coasters. I would LOVE to have that title under my name when someone interviewed me!
#3 I can draw just about anything if I have an example in front of me or a picture to go by. Don't ask me to come up with something on my own--not going to happen. This year my students figured out this little piece of info early in the school year. So I decided I would let each of them pick something they would want me to draw, and I drew it on a piece of white paper for the student to have.
#4 I don't like any animal that scurries. Almost everyone knows that I hate spiders and most bugs, but my dislike is spread evenly for all animals that scurry. This could include, but doesn't limit itself to: hamsters, small rodents, really little dogs, lizards, etc. This list is really long. Just know that I don't discriminate to only bugs.
#5 I have a hard time spending money on clothes. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE TO SHOP. I just can't see dropping a bunch of $$ on clothing. I have gotten better in my older age, and I can see now that buying better quality pieces that last longer is a grown up thing to do. I just hate spending that much in one sitting.
#6 I LOVE to organize. I especially love to organize other people's things. I would love to open my own business where I go into people's houses and help them get rid of things and organize the rest of their stuff. I love when I get everything in it's place, and when everything is nice and neat. It is probably a serious case of OCD, but who cares!
#7 As vibrant and colorful as my personality may be, my house is not. I am a neutral shade kinda girl at home. I like to keep things simple, I don't over decorate, I have a hard time hanging things on the wall, and I don't like things on the table tops. Part of that goes back to #6, but really, with boys in my house (that throw balls inside), it is just safer to keep things off the tops of tables.
#8 As much as I might complain about the ball field, I secretly love it. Not the heat, or the sun in my eyes, but I love watching my boys play!!
#9 I have always wanted to write a book. I just don't know what I would write it about. I used to think I would write one and tell funny stories about school. Then I thought I would write one about Moms with boys. Then I decided that writing a blog was hard enough!
#10 I am not good at keeping in touch with people. I really hate this about myself. I am seriously bad at sending cards for special occasions. I am glad we have things like Facebook and texting because it makes people like me feel better.
so that wasn't too bad! I hope you learned something, but if you already knew all of this about me, you ROCK! I also probably forgot to send you a birthday card, so happy late birthday!

Hanging my head
Wow, has it really been OVER a year? I haven't completely disappeared, but I have been stalking other people's blogs. I love reading what other people are doing, but I am not the best at keeping people posted (blog-wise) about us. I update Facebook frequently, and I talk to my family often, but I just can't seem to keep this blog up to date. So let's just do a quick run down on everyone in the family and the past year.
Starting with youngest to oldest:
Wilson: He is in preschool (at the same daycare), and he seems to be learning lots. He comes home everyday with the letters he is learning, and he always has a funny story to tell. He has started to really develop his own little personality. He is the funny guy when he wants to be, but mostly he is still obsessed with all sports. He will watch anything sports related. I am talking boxing, wrestling, horse racing, and of course football, baseball, and basketball. He is currently playing up in the t-ball world. He will turn 5 this summer and could start school in the fall, but we have decided to hold him out for year. As a teacher of upper grades, I see all to often that students suffer from being the youngest in their class.
Russell: Currently in 1st grade, Russell is rocking the education world. Now, every parent wants to think that their child is a genius, or super special, and I am no exception. Russell is reading above grade level, and he spells fantastically (which obviously he got that trait from his father). His math skills are sometimes unbelievable. When he gets quite (usually in the car), and I ask him what he is doing he will spout something off like, "Did you know that 13 groups of 20 is 260." Russell played pitching machine in the fall to prepare for the spring season of church league. This is serious stuff around here. We have played with the same kids (and coaches) for the past couple of years, and Russell seems to enjoy it. I think playing fall ball might have been a little bit of an overload, so this year I want him to try some other sports or activities. Star Wars, Ninjago, Pokemon, Bey Blades, and all things related are the current obsessions in our house.
Hillary: I took on a special challenge this school year. The third day of school, my principal called a special meeting of the upper grade teachers, and presented us with the fact that we would have to have a 4th/5th grade spilt class. I can honestly say that I heard the Lord speak to me in her office, and He told me that this was what I was supposed to do. I can 't say that there haven't been numerous challenges (like teaching two completely different set of objectives), but my students have really made this year special. I feel like this was the best year I have had in my 10 years of teaching. I will be extremely emotional at the end of the year. I received a special honor (I think directly related to the fact that I took on this challenge) in March. My coworkers and PTA nominated and voted me Teacher of the Year for Euper Lane Elementary. It was a huge surprise, and I was extremely emotional. I feel so honored to be recognized for the job I do, but really and truly, I enjoy the students, teachers, and environment at our school! I have decided to go back to school. I will start this summer, and the course work is all online. I will have a new class every 5 weeks. I am going to be getting my Masters in Educational Leadership (Administration). I have mixed emotions about it (especially since our life is so busy), but the pay raise is a big factor in my decision. I don't want to get out of the classroom yet, but having the degree will allow me to have more options in the future.
Justin: Justin just finished up another track season as Girls Track coach. Football was pretty successful, landing us in the playoffs again this year. He is keeping himself busy fixing things around the house and coaching Wilson's t-ball team. Yes, folks you read that right, Justin is coaching 12 4,5,and 6 year olds. I don't care what he says, I know he secretly enjoys it! I am sure he is looking forward to some time off this summer as short as it may be. Justin's dad just purchased a new trailer that he is putting on a lot by the river. Chester had one before, but after the floods of 2011, he had to demolish it. I know that Justin, the boys, and Chester will be taking full advantage of the new place this summer.
We have big plans of a beach trip to Destin this summer. Justin and I will also be visiting Ryan and Shannon in Chicago in July. Other than that I am hoping to spend most of my days poolside. I am a self proclaimed pool bum, so if you live in Fort Smith or the surrounding areas, and you own a pool, I might need to be your best friend. Haha, no really I am serious! I hope everyone is doing well! I don't know if anyone will actually read this blog (you know since I never post), but if you do, I thank you. I have high hopes to keep it up!

Traveling, talking, teaching and trying new things
We have really been trying to make the most of our Christmas break. While on break we have enjoyed seeing family, rested, relaxed, ate tons of goodies, and played with all of the new toys we received for Christmas.

Our first adventure led us to Houston to visit Justin's side of the family. It was a full house with Aunt Linda and Uncle Steve, Grandmother and Granddaddy-o, The Moddelmog family, the Archer family, the Key family. Britni and John were able to make it for our last night in Houston.

It was so wonderful to see everyone and have the kids spend time together.

I didn't get many pictures of our time in Houston, but the few that I took really show how much fun the kids had playing together. We took them to an awesome Christmas program, made a Gingerbread man hunt for presents, played "Uncle Sam, Uncle Sam" in the back yard, and took a few trips to the neighborhood park.
It was a long drive home, but we made it in one day (THANKS, Justin!). We wanted to make it home so we could spend Christmas eve and day with our fabulous family of four. I spent time on Christmas eve making good food and wrapping presents. The boys were getting really excited about the upcoming events!! After all was said and done, we cleaned up nice and neat to head to Christmas eve service at FUMC. When we returned home, we all opened one gift (new pj's), and quickly headed to bed (or at least the boys did).

Santa was really good to all of us! The boys enjoyed all of their gifts. Russell's gifts fell more on the artistic side of things, while Wilson's gifts followed a trend of sports (big surprise) with a little Toy Story 3 mixed in.

I hope you and your family had a peaceful and enjoyable Christmas. Much love to all of our family and friends.

Unca Ryan and Aunt Shannon come to visit
We had another wonderful set of visitors recently. My brother, Ryan, and his wonderful wife, Shannon, came all the way from Chicago to see us. We filled the weekend with LOTS of events, but truth be told, I think we could have filled it with just the boys.

Friday: Their flight came in about 10, so all of us loaded up in the van to make the trip to XNA. The boys entertained themselves while waiting by acting like monsters crashing a toy house in the baggage area. What can I say? Boys will be boys. We came back to the Fort and had a nice lunch at Chedders. I think Shannon was appalled at Ryan's choice of Chicken Fried Steak, but she tried it like a good sport. Once we made it to the house the boys were relentless in their pursuit of playing with our guests. I think it is safe to say that everyone was WORN OUT by early afternoon. Justin had to scout a game (we had a bye week), and the weather was nice, so we decided to grill some tasties. The boys were happy to share their new movie, Toy Story 3, with Aunt Shannon.

Saturday: The boys and I woke up fairly early. Wilson complained of a stomach ache and claimed the only remedy was cinnamon rolls. He waited patiently for them to finish cooking and devoured 3 on his own. Once everyone else woke up, I fixed another round of cinnamon rolls and promptly banned the younger people from eating them all. (They must be going through a growth spurt!!) Ryan, Shannon, Wilson , and I made a quick run to Academy Sports for Hog gear. Of course, while we were there, Wilson found a Rebel colored football that he just HAD to have. Uncle Ryan was very nice to buy it for him (even if it was for us to take to the game later). Ms. Macy made it to the house to hang out with the boys while the adults made another trek up the hill for the Hog game. We had a blast tailgating at Pratt Farm, and the Hogs won in honor of Shannon. Once we made it back home, we all got out our competitive belts for a quick game of Cranium. Do you even need to ask who won? THE GIRLS!!

Sunday: We decided to take Ryan and Shannon to a really nice breakfast at our favorite stomping grounds--IHOP. I think the funniest comment of the weekend was Ryan saying, "Man, it is hard to take kids to breakfast. I am used to getting a paper and not saying anything to anyone." Yep, big bro, kids put a kink in those plans. Sunday was pretty much lounging, laundry, playing with the kids, and napping. We had to leave about 2:30 to make one last trip up the hill to the airport. After we saw Uncle Ryan and Aunt Shannon off safely, me and the boys drove safely back to our quiet home to enjoy the rest of our evening.
It was such a wonderful weekend (even if it was terribly short). The boys can't wait for the next time they see their "best buddies". Russell claims every time he gets mad at me that he is going to get on a plane and go live with Ryan and Shannon in Chicago. My typical response is "You would never make it in that cold. "

Spooktacular Day
Unlike most towns around, Fort Smith kept the Halloween Festivities on actual Halloween this year. It kinda put a kink in our fun-filed day as the coaches work for most of the day. However, Jeff was kind enough to let the coaches have 5:30-7:30 with their candy crazed children. THANKS!!

Russell, Wilson, and I started our afternoon with the Fimples at FUMC for their carnival. It was held in the FLC and consisted of games, bouncy houses, candy, candy and more candy. It was a really great way to warm up to the idea of people in costumes. In case you aren't aware, Wilson has a huge fear of strange people wearing strange outfits. He did really well, considering there were some seriously scary costumes there.

After we won all the games, took all the candy, and feasted on all the popcorn and soda we could, we headed to SHS to pick up the daddies. Sonic was running a special on corn dogs, so we swung by and picked up dinner to eat before Trick-or-Treating. We met the Fimples (+Keith) at a park in a local neighborhood, and we all ate some really healthy food. To maximize the short time we had we preplanned where we would visit. One of the neighborhoods is known for giving out full sized candy bars, and we had hunted this area last year. Let's just say the kids really racked up on loot!! A fun time was had by everyone involved. Now if I can just keep myself out of the bag of goodies.

Papa T's Halloween Extravaganza
This past weekend was the party to end all other parties. If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting "Papa T" then I feel so sorry for you. This man (who is the dad of a coach) puts on a great show for all of the kids. I am talking about HUGE blowup houses and slides. He requires costumes, but he provides great prizes for them. He thinks of the most inventive games to play, and the party always ends with the kids filling up their pumpkin baskets with TONS of candy. This year The Stewarts and The Keys went with the group theme of "Grease". We thought it was fitting--the boys could all be "tough T-Birds", and Leslie and I could be sassy Pink Ladies. Leslie is a very talented seamstress, and she took on the job of making our sexy poodle skirts. We won "Best Over All 3rd place", but I think we could have stolen the show if Tadd hadn't messed up "The Hand Jive" during judging. Leslie was Frenchie (duh--she sprayed her hair pink), and I was Rizzo (you can't see the hickey I drew on my neck). Needless to say we had a great time despite the torrential down pour. We are already planning next year's costumes. Any ideas?
